RULES: 

Superintendent: Mary Haan   1.  All entries in this division must be grown by exhibitor.  Only one entry per family in any one lot will be allowed.
     2.  Exhibitors must be 8 years of age or older unless exhibiting in youth categories.  (Youth categories are for ages 6-16 years.) 
Registration may be done on entry day or you may pre-register.   3.  All entries should be labeled as to correct variety and be exhibited with attached foliage except for Day Lilies and Scabiosa. 
    4.  All entries must meet the requirements of the premium list or they will be disqualified. 
ENTRY DAY:   5.  The superintendent has the right to dispose of any specimens showing signs of severe wilting, spoilage or damage.  No awards will be made where exhibits are below standards for showmanship and quality. 
DIVISION H1-H7: MONDAY, AUGUST 09, 2010 - 10:00am-8:00pm    6.  Exhibits from commercial growers will not be judged. 
DIVISION H8-H10: THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 2010 - 5:00pm-9:00pm - Variety Name Requested; Amber bottles will be provided   7.  A purple "Champion" ribbon and $20.00 premium will be awarded to the outstanding exhibits in the Flowers department.
JUDGING:    8.  Exhibits must not be removed before 7:00pm, Sunday, August 15, 2010.  Any exhibits removed before the specified time will result in forfeiture of the premium.  Building will close a 9:00pm on Sunday.

**Important: How to prepare cut specimens for showing:

Cut late evening or early morning.  Place in tepid water in a cool dark place for several hours.  This will hydrate cuttings and prevent wilting.

Class 9 - Gladiolus and Dahlias

To be entered Thursday August 12th, 5-9p.m. for judging 8a.m. on Friday, August 13th. (Gladiolus-large over 4 1/2", Medium 3 1/2 - 4 1/2", small under 3 1/2".)

Criteria for Dahlia (Two basic rules:)

  1. Cut only mature blooms
  2. Cut in the cool part of the day

Disbudding-Dahlias develop buds in a cluster of three. Always pinch off the two side buds as soon as they appear.

To be entered Thursday, August 12th, 5-9p.m. for judging 8a.m. on Friday August 13th. Exhibits will be judged on design of plant materials, containers, arrangement, color and originality. Omit artificial or silk material.
Criteria for Artistic Arrangements
Design:  balance, dominance, contrast, rhythm, proportion, scale.
Perfection: condition of plant material.
  • Premiums: 1st - $8.00; 2nd -  $7.00; 3rd - $6.00

A separate class for Garden Club Members to exhibit in and have a friendly competition with other area Garden Club Members. You may also exhibit in Classes 1-11. Class 12 is for Garden Club Members only. Please list your Clubs name. All entries to be entered on Thursday, August 12th, 5-9p.m. for judging 8a.m. on Friday, August 13th.
