About the Dakota County Agricultural Society
The Dakota County Agricultural Society (DCAS) is a 501(3)(c) non-profit, governed by a Board of Directors that is dedicated to fostering community, education, and tradition through agriculture and family-friendly events. Since our founding in 1858, we’ve proudly owned and operated the Dakota County Fairgrounds, where we host one of the largest and most beloved county fairs in Minnesota.
Each August, the Dakota County Fair brings together over 300,000 visitors to enjoy exhibits, entertainment, food, and learning experiences for all ages. But our work doesn't stop when the fair ends.
Year-Round Community Impact
The Dakota County Agricultural Society supports the community in many ways all year long:
-
Educational Outreach – From school tours and homeschool days in Dakota City to agriculture education and hands-on youth experiences, we’re committed to helping the next generation learn about our rural roots.
-
Events & Rentals – Our beautifully maintained grounds—often described as “arboretum-like”—serve as the backdrop for birthday parties, weddings, community events, and corporate rentals.
-
Youth Programming – We support 4-H and FFA, and partner with local organizations for mentor hunts, livestock clinics, and youth showmanship opportunities.
-
Historical Preservation – In partnership with Dakota City Heritage Village, we help preserve and celebrate our county’s rich agricultural and cultural history.
-
Accessibility & Inclusion – Through free admission, courtesy carts, and inclusive programming, we strive to make the fair and all our events welcoming to everyone.
Privately Operated, Publicly Focused
The Dakota County Agricultural Society is privately operated by volunteers and community members, not taxpayer-funded. Our work is sustained through the generous support of sponsors, donors, and event partners who believe in our mission to offer educational, engaging, and affordable experiences for all.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong fairgoer, we invite you to be a part of our tradition—celebrating community, agriculture, and the spirit of Dakota County.
